We must live in a society whose fabric is strong enough to hold together when varied viewpoints seem to be pulling it apart. A call for a boycott here is tantamount to denying freedom of expression. Mr. Strock is not a hate monger, and did not publish the Protocols of Zion. Let's continue to disagree thoughtfully and be strong enough to do so. Thank you Rabbi. I absolutely will boycott the Gazette and will appeal to Price Chopper and related companies not to advertise with the Gazette unless appropriate apologies and retractions are taken. Certainly my business will not advertise with the Gazette.
L'Shalom, KRLTuffBaggshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11626079063560942580noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3467520748463030542.post-1534730159305920982012-05-04T08:25:35.342-07:002012-05-04T08:25:35.342-07:00Rabbi, while I appreciate your response, and agree...Rabbi, while I appreciate your response, and agree w/ it whole heartedly, I think it misses an important point. That Mr. Strock's comments are anti-semetic and hateful can hardly be denied. Strock is well known for this type of inflamatory speech. As disturbing as Mr. Strock's "opinion" piece is, the real problem here is the fact that the Schenectady Gazette printed this piece.

On reading Strocks' column, I called the Gezette and spoke to the editor. I expressed my shock that this piece would make it past the paper's editorial board. I was amazed to learn that the Schenectady Gazette does not excersise any editorial control over it's "opinion" writers. Thus, this piece went to press without any editorial constraint. Mr. Strock could have reprinted the Protocols of Zion, and the Schenectady Gazette would have printed it without comment.

Attacking Mr. Strock and his hate speech is important and entirely appropriate; but I think it is just as important to send a message to the Schenectady Gazette that they are responsible for the content of their paper. They are disseminating Mr. Strock's hate speech, and are therefor an accomplice. I would encourage advertisers to withdraw their adds from the paper, and I would further encourage people to boycott the paper untill the Schenectady Gazette issues a retraction and an apology to their readers.Bruce Huttnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02100546415484517757noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3467520748463030542.post-49957355245711346882012-05-04T06:55:28.161-07:002012-05-04T06:55:28.161-07:00Many thanks for this well-considered, "though...Many thanks for this well-considered, "thought-full" response.
